Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that on August 28th, 2019, Stephanie A. Larson (DOB: 11/20/1992) was found guilty of Endangering the Life of a Child after a jury trial in front of the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher.

On October 23rd, 2017, Loves Park Police Officers responded to a home in the 5100 Block of Rocky Lane for a medical assist.  Upon arrival, Officers found a one year old female child, who was not breathing. According to the child’s father, he returned to the residence after work around 6:30pm that day and found his child floating in the bathtub. The father pulled his child from the water, saw she wasn’t breathing and immediately began doing CPR until the paramedics got there. The child was transported to a Rockford Hospital, but did not survive. An autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office determined that the baby died as a result of drowning. Through the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that the child’s mother, Stephanie Larson, put the baby in the bathtub, left her unattended and forgot about her.

Endangering the Life of a Child is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of either probation or an extended term of 2-10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. If the defendant is sentenced to the Department of Corrections, she will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for a year after she is released from prison.

Larson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 30th, 2019, by the Honorable Judge Maher in Courtroom D at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
