State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross

 

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that after being granted a new trial in November of 2016, Bryon K. Champ (D.O.B. 12/8/1969)was found guilty for a second time of Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery after a bench trial in front of the Honorable Judge Debra Schafer.

On June 12th, 2015, Rockford Police Officers responded to 505 Seminary Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers met with a female victim, who reported that the defendant, Byron Champ, grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her. Police observed visible injuries to the victim’s face and neck.  The victim had a previous domestic relationship with the defendant.

           

            Aggravated Domestic Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant is mandatory Class X Felony sentencing of 6-30 years in the Department of Corrections because of his prior criminal convictions.

            Aggravated Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

            Domestic Battery is a Class 4 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 1-3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release. 

 

            Champ is scheduled to be sentenced at 11:00am on June 25th, 2019 by the Honorable Judge Schafer in Courtroom 467 at the Winnebago County Courthouse.
