Press Release-Demetrius Love Plea

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that Demetrius Deon Love (D.O.B. 12/17/1993) pled guilty to Attempt First Degree Murder in front of the Honorable Judge Randy Wilt.

On June 5th, 2016, Rockford Police responded to 1107 Furman Street for a shots fired call.  Officers found the victim, Rashawn Smith, suffering from a gunshot wound to the eye.  Smith survived, and provided a written statement indicating that the person who shot him was Demetrius Love.  The following investigation led police to the gun Love used in the crime. 


Attempt First Degree Murder is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. 


Love is scheduled to be sentenced at 3:00pm on October 30th, 2017 by the Honorable Judge Randy Wilt.
