Press Release-Frank Jefferson III Sentence

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that on December 18th, 2018, Frank James Jefferson, III (D.O.B. 9/3/1993) was sentenced to 27 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher. The defendant will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years once he is released from prison. Jefferson was found guilty of Home Invasion involving a firearm, Armed Robbery involving a firearm, and Aggravated Robbery after a bench trial in March.

On April 30, 2016, Rockford Police were called to 3203 Idlewood Terrace for a home invasion. During the investigation, Detectives learned that the defendant, Frank Jefferson, III, was one of three individuals who suddenly entered the residence, pointed guns at a homeowner and another person inside and told them to get on the floor. With guns drawn, the suspects took property from each of the victims. One of the victims was able to identify the defendant as an individual involved in the home invasion and armed robbery.

 

            Home Invasion is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant was eligible for an extended term of 21-45 years because he used a firearm during the commission of the offense. The defendant was sentenced to 27 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for this offense. The sentence will be served at 50%.

            Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant was eligible for an extended term of 21-45 years because he used a firearm during the commission of the crime. The defendant was sentenced to 27 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for each of the two counts of Armed Robbery he was convicted of. These sentences will run concurrently to the other sentences and be served at 50%.

            Aggravated Robbery is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant was eligible for an extended term of 4-30 years because of a prior conviction.  Jefferson was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for each of the two counts of Aggravated Robbery he was convicted of. These sentences will also run concurrently to the sentences imposed on the other charges and be served at 50%.
