Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that on February 26th, 2018,Chayse Richard Lee Keller (D.O.B. 6/17/1982) pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance in front of the Honorable Judge John Lowry. As part of his plea, Keller was sentenced to 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years once he is released from prison.
In April of 2016, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over a vehicle for failing to stop at a red light. Deputies made contact with the driver, Chayse Keller, who appeared to be intoxicated. Keller was removed from the vehicle, and deputies took the defendant in to custody. During the arrest, a baggie containing a white powdery substance fell out of Keller’s jeans pocket. The white powdery substance field tested positive for the probable presence of cocaine and weighed over 22 grams.
Possession of a Controlled Substance is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant will be required to serve 50% of his 13 year prison sentence.
