Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces charges against an individual for a fatal stabbing that happened in Rockford in 2015.
On May 28th, 2015, Rockford Police responded to 1435 Broadway after reports of a stabbing. Officers located one victim, 19-year-old Alonzo Garuno. An autopsy later revealed Garuno died as a result of being stabbed.
William Laboy Fontanez (D.O.B. 1/15/1987)faces four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery charges.
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Battery is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.

The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
