Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that Laronda D. Graham(D.O.B. 9/17/1993)pled guilty to Reckless Homicide and Aggravated Fleeing to Elude in front of the Honorable Judge Donna Honzel. As part of the plea, Graham was sentenced to a total of six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for two years once she is released from prison.
On February 8th, 2016, Illinois State Police were called to assist the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department with a two vehicle car crash at the intersection of Springfield and Cunningham Roads. Investigators determined that a Sheriff’s Deputy was attempting to make a traffic stop near the area of West State Street and Meridian Road when the driver, later identified as Laronda D. Graham, fled at a high rate of speed. Graham ended up striking another vehicle, driven by the victim, Joy Lambert at Springfield and Cunningham after Graham sped through a red light. Lambert was ejected from her vehicle, and pronounced deceased at the scene. A subsequent autopsy revealed Lambert died from the injuries she sustained in the crash. Graham and her passenger, Eric Brown, Jr. were also seriously injured
Reckless Homicide is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release. Graham was sentenced to the maximum of 5 years in the Department of Corrections for this charge and will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for one years after she is released from prison.
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude is a Class 4 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 1-3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant was sentenced to one year in the Department of Corrections for this offense and will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for a year after she is released from prison. This one year sentence will be served after Graham completes the 5 year sentence on the Reckless Homicide
Graham will be required to serve 50% of the six year prison sentence.
