State's Attorney Joe Bruscato
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces charges against a Rockford man for a fatal shooting that happened on October 5th, 2017.
Rockford Police responded to the 300 block of Cole Avenue regarding reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim, later identified at 27 year-old Isaiah Starks of Rockford, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Rockford Fire Department personnel transported Starks to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy revealed that the victim died as a result of a gunshot wound.
Marcus Marshawn Spates (D.O.B. 7/26/1970)faces a bill of indictment that includes 12 counts of First Degree Murder.
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with the possibility of Natural Life followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
