Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Roscoe man has been indicted for sexually assaulting a child.
In October of 2018, the Loves Park Police Department received a complaint about sexual abuse that had started in 2012. The victim reported that the defendant,Sean L. Whippler (D.O.B. 5/14/1993)began sexually assaulting her when she was under the age of 13, and the abuse continued for several years. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation that was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. Whippler was charged and subsequently indicted by a Grand Jury on three counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault.
Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. If convicted, the defendant would also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Whippler is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 9:00am on January 22nd, 2019 in front of the Honorable Judge Joseph McGraw in Courtroom A at the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
