Winnebago County Host Fee-funded economic development grants promote growth-oriented community investment that benefit Winnebago County citizens and improve economic well-being and quality of life in the County.

Winnebago County is a proud Host Fee sponsor of a numerous of initiatives, programs, and projects since 2005. The major multi-year projects are featured below.

 

Project: Construction of Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens

Partner: Rockford Park District Foundation

Grant: $800,000 (over 8 years)

Purpose: To encourage tourism by attracting visitors for unique garden, interactive, and exhibit experiences

Awarded: August 11, 2011 (2011-CR-96)

 

Project: Renovation of the BMO Harris Centre

Partner: City of Rockford

Grant: $8,990,000 (over 20 years)

Purpose: To encourage tourism by attracting entertainment talent and visitors

Awarded: January 25, 2007 (2007-CR-6)

 

Project: Expansion of Rock Valley College Aviation Maintenance Technology Program

Partner: Rock Valley College

Grant: $1,000,000 (over 20 years)

Purpose: To meet the demand for skilled aerospace workforce by building and equipping an aviation maintenance training facility and program

Awarded: February 27, 2014 (2014-CO-026)

 

Project: Barber-Colman Village Redevelopment Project

Partners: City of Rockford and Rock Valley College

Grant: $3,200,000

Purpose: For site improvements to support the redevelopment of the Barber-Colman property including the Rock Valley College Technical Career Training Institute

Awarded: September 7, 2017 (2017-CR-113)

 

Project: Reclaiming First Amateur Sports Tournament and Recreation Venue Expansion

Partner: Rockford Park District

Grant: $7,000,000 (over 20 years)

Purpose: To promote tourism, competitiveness, job growth, and general health and well-being of the citizens of Winnebago County, and specifically for investment in regional sports, arts, and other entertainment or tourism facilities or programs

Awarded: February 27, 2014 (2014-CO-025)

 

Project: Construction of a Maintenance Repair and Operations (MRO) Facility

Partner: Greater Rockford Airport Authority

Grant: $8,000,000 (over 20 years)

Purpose: To promote and sustain the regional position as a premier aerospace location through capital development and job creation

Awarded: November 13, 2015 (2015-CR-121)
