Convicted Murderer Curtis Brownell


Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross along with Boone County State's Attorney Tricia Smith oppose the release of Curtis Brownell who was convicted of the kidnapping, rape and murder of 17 year old Louse Betts in September, 1977 and the kidnapping, rape and attempt murder of a pregnant woman in January, 1978.  Brownell is scheduled for a parole hearing on February 13, 2019.  Both Winnebago County State's Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross and Boone County State's Attorney Tricia Smith plan on attending his parole hearing at The Dixon Correctional Center to personally oppose his release.  Denying parole of Brownell assists with keeping the citizens of Winnebago and Boone Counties safe from such a violent preditor.  Winnebago County State's Attorney Hite Ross and Boone County State's Attorney Smith are asking the public to sign the petition opposing the release of Curtis Brownell.  Please click on the link above to access the petition to sign opposing his release.
