Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that on August 6th, 2018, Charles S. Dehaan (D.O.B. 7/26/1954) pled guilty to three counts of Aggravated Battery in front of the Honorable Judge John Lowry. The plea involves three separate victims, two of them were over the age of 60 and the third was physically handicapped at the time the offenses occurred.
The Rockford Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department began investigating, after receiving complaints from three separate elderly individuals who reported they had been touched inappropriately by their doctor during home health care appointments at the victims’ residences. The alleged behavior was reported to have occurred between October of 2010 and December of 2013. The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and charges were filed against the defendant, Charles S. Dehaan. Dehaan was a licensed practicing physician in the Rockford area at the time of the offenses.
Aggravated Battery to a Victim Over the Age of 60 is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence probation or from 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Battery to a Victim who is Handicapped is also a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of probation or from 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Dehaan is scheduled to be sentenced on September 20th, 2018 at 1:30pm by the Honorable Judge John Lowry in Courtroom 314.
