State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a veteran Rockford Police Officer for a sexual assault that occurred last month.
On October 12th, 2019, the Rockford Police Department received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in Rockford during the early morning hours of October 11th, 2019. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and the suspect was identified as Rockford Police Officer Daniel D. Basile (DOB: 6/6/1968). The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office for charges. Basile was recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury on two counts of Criminal Sexual Assault charges. He is currently on paid administrative leave as is protocol for the Rockford Police Department.
Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Basil is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 1:30pm on December 5th, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher in Courtroom D at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
