State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that on December 5th, 2018, Denzel D. Reid (D.O.B. 5/24/1995) was sentenced to a total of 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge John Lowry. The defendant will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years after he is released from prison. Reid was found guilty of Armed Robbery after a jury trial in April.
On September 24th, 2015, Rockford Police Officers responded to the area of 3100 Chateau Court for a possible aggravated battery complaint. Upon arrival, officers identified blood in the roadway at the location. A short time later, a shooting victim arrived at a Rockford Hospital. During the course of the investigation, Rockford Detectives learned that the victim responded to a Craigslist ad, and arranged to meet the defendant, Denzel Reid, to purchase a cell phone. Reid pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s money. When the victim refused to comply, Reid shot him. The victim drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years in the department of corrections, plus an additional 20 years because the jury found that the allegation that Reid personally discharged a firearm during the commission of the offense was proven. The sentence will be served at 85%.
