State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces charges against a man for a deadly shooting in Rockford last month.
On October 15th, 2019, Rockford Police Officers responded to the 4900 block of Harrison Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound on the ground outside of an apartment building. The victim, later identified as 40-year-old Robert Wash, was transported to a Rockford hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A subsequent autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office revealed that Wash died as a result of a gunshot wound. Rockford Police Violent Crime Detectives conducted a follow up investigation that was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, Eric L. Brown, Jr. (DOB: 8/26/1991) has been charged with First Degree Murder, Home Invasion and Armed Robbery.
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant is eligible for an extended term of 45 years in the Department of Corrections to Natural Life for this offense.
Home Invasion is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Brown is currently in custody at the Winnebago County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on unrelated charges at 8:30am on December 19th, 2019.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
