Press Release-Jami Grey Sentence

State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato


Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that Jami Grey (D.O.B. 01/27/1976) was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Donna Honzel.  The defendant will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for two years once she is released from prison. Grey pled guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving Death in May of 2017.

On July 5, 2015 Rockford City Police Department officers were called to the area of 4000 Auburn Street in regards to a traffic crash involving a death.  Officers learned that a pedestrian was hit and killed by an individual driving a Chevrolet Silverado. A witness stated that he observed a black pickup truck swerve off the roadway and strike a pedestrian walking in the grass.  The victim was identified as Marvin King.  King was unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced dead at Rockford Memorial Hospital.  The truck was located later and Rockford Police Officers observed damage to the front right side of the Chevrolet that was consistent with hitting a pedestrian.  The defendant, Jami Gray admitted to swerving off the roadway and striking King with her truck. 


Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving Death is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
