Press Release-Jayln Verner Plea

State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross


Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that on December 5th, 2018, Jayln J. Verner (D.O.B. 3/20/1993) was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge John Lowry. The defendant will also be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years once he is released from prison. Verner pled guilty to Armed Robbery in front of the Honorable Judge Lowry in court today.

On December 22nd, 2017, Rockford Police Detectives began to investigate after a male reported that he had been robbed by an individual who had a weapon. The victim told police that he was showing rental properties to perspective tenants, when a male entered the residence with a firearm and demanded money. During the follow-up investigation, the defendant, Jayln Verner was identified as the suspect involved in the armed robbery. 

Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The six year sentence will be served at 50%.
