Press Release-Jose ZunigaOlivas Sentence

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that Jose Armando ZunigaOlivas (D.O.B. 8/12/1969) was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Ronald White. ZunigaOlivas was found guilty of three counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance after a jury trial in May of 2018.

In May of 2015, the Stateline Area Narcotics Team (SLANT) received a confidential tip that the defendant, Jose Armando ZunigaOlivas was selling quantities of cocaine in the Rockford area.  An Undercover SLANT Agent arranged to purchase a large amount of cocaine from ZunigaOlivas.  The Agent met ZunigaOlivas three times over the course of two weeks, and the defendant gave the Officer cocaine for money.  The transactions took place on May 21st, May 27th and June 3rd of 2015.


Delivery of a Controlled Substance is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. ZunigaOlivas was sentenced to concurrent terms of 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on each of the three counts.  He will be on Mandatory Supervised Release for three years once he is released from prison. The sentences will be served at 50%.
