Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that on June 24th, 2019, Kellen M. Odems (D.O.B. 1/16/1987) pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death in front of the Honorable Judge Philip Nicolosi.


On September 9th, 2016, at approximately 9:50pm, Rockford Police Officers responded to the area of New Milford Avenue and Kishwaukee Street after a report of a body in the roadway.  A short time later, Rockford Police Officers were also dispatched to the area of 18th Avenue and Kishwaukee Street for a possible hit and run. A witness called 911 to report that a man in a wheelchair had been struck by a vehicle. Officers located the body of a man at the intersection of New Milford and Kishwaukee. Rockford Firefighters responded to the scene and pronounced the victim, later identified as Richard Walker, deceased. Rockford Police Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and the defendant, Kellen Odems, was identified as the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene.


Aggravated Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.


Odems is scheduled to be sentenced by the Honorable Judge Nicolosi at 3:00pm on August 23rd, 2019, in Courtroom C of the Winnebago County Justice Center.
