State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Machesney Park man has been indicted by a Grand Jury for a murder earlier this month.
On May 6th, 2019, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 200 block of Northway Park Road in Machesney Park for a medical assist. Upon arrival, Deputies located an unresponsive female inside an apartment. The victim, later identified as Sharon Stoner, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined that Stoner died as a result of blunt force trauma. Sheriff’s Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation that was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was issued for the defendant, Kent M. Stoner (D.O.B. 10/10/1972). Stoner was recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Domestic Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Stoner is currently in custody at the Winnebago County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9:00am on June 4th, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Joseph McGraw in Courtroom A at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
