State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces charges against a man for a deadly home invasion that happened in Rockford last year.
On February 23rd, 2018, Rockford Police Officers responded to a home in the 400 block of South Henrietta Avenue for a home invasion. Upon arrival, Officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as 23-year-old Julian Young, Jr. was pronounced deceased. A subsequent autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office revealed that Young died as a result of a gunshot wound. Detectives conducted a follow up investigation that was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, Shawnqiz D. Lee (DOB: 5/5/1991) has been charged with First Degree Murder and Home Invasion.
First Degree Murder is a Class M Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Home Invasion is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Lee is currently in the custody of the Winnebago County Jail.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
