Winnebago County Health Department Gets Drug Take Back Box and

Participates in Drug Take Back Day.

 WINNEBAGO COUNTY – The Winnebago County Health Department (WCHD) now has a box where residents can safely dispose of unused and unwanted prescription medications. This drug take back box is located on the 4th floor of the Winnebago County Health Department at 555 N. Court Street, Rockford, IL.

“We are excited to provide a year round drop off site for unused prescription medication right here at the health department,” said Cheryl Floyd, Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Wellness of the Winnebago County Health Department. “We encourage the community to take advantage of this opportunity to keep their homes and community safe from the misuse of prescription medication.”

The drug take back box is available during business hours throughout the year. In addition, this Saturday, April 28 from 10am-2pm the Winnebago County Health Department will be open to accept unused and unwanted medications as part of National Drug Take Back Day.

National Drug Take Back Day is an annual event that serves as a reminder to everyone in our community to check their home for unused or unwanted prescription medications and dispose of them safely. Additional drop off sites that accept prescription medications throughout the year are:

Walgreens Pharmacy at 5900 N. 2nd Street in Loves Park is also participating in National Drug Take Back Day and will accept prescription medication from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 28.

WCHD encourages all residents to help us make a difference in our community and take back your medications on Saturday, April 28. Keep them safe, clean them out, and take them back. This program is funded in whole or in part by Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
