State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that on February 15th, 2017, Donald Ashford (D.O.B. 8/26/1994) was found guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm after a jury trial in front of the Honorable Judge Ronald White.
On October 8th, 2016, Rockford Police went to the 2300 block of Freemont Street to conduct a follow-up investigation into a shooting that had occurred earlier in the day at CherryVale Mall. While there, a Sergeant located a gold Buick that matched the description of the vehicle witnesses reported seeing drive away from the Mall shortly after the shooting. Officers recognized the driver, Donald Ashford from prior contact. Ashford backed out of the alley, crashed the Buick into a Rockford Police vehicle, before he fled the scene. A few minutes later, police received a report that the vehicle Ashford was driving crashed into a car at East State and Mulford, and that the driver fired shots at another occupied vehicle while he was attempting to get away.
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Ashford is scheduled to be back in court for a status hearing at 1:00pm on February 17th, 2017 in front of the Honorable Judge White in Courtroom 316.
