State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Rockford woman has been indicted by a Grand Jury for a shooting that happened in December.
On December 13th, 2018, Rockford Police responded to the area of Arline Avenue and Richmond Street in reference to shots fired. Officers located a 16-year-old male victim who had been shot in the legs. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Rockford Police Detectives and SCOPE officers conducted a follow up investigation which was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, Samantha L. Holt (D.O.B. 8/7/1985) was charged and recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury. Holt faces a two count Bill of Indictment that includes Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery charges.
Aggravated Battery with a Firearm is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Domestic Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by four years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Holt is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail on $500,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned at 9am on January 17th, 2019 in front of the Honorable Judge Randy Wilt in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
