Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces that Sergio L. Puentes (D.O.B. 1/1/1981)was found guilty of Home Invasion, Aggravated Domestic Battery and Aggravated Battery after a jury trial in front of the Honorable Judge Randy Wilt.
On September 16th, 2017, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 1200 Block of Fisher Road in South Beloit for a home invasion. Deputies observed the defendant, Sergio Puentes and a female standing in the driveway. Puentes was dragging the female by the arm towards a motorcycle and striking her. Deputies located another male victim inside the residence, who had also been battered. A follow-up investigation by Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives revealed that Puentes kicked the door open and attacked both the male and female, who were inside the residence.
Home Invasion is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of supervised release. The defendant is eligible for an extended sentence of 30-60 years in the Department of Corrections.
Aggravated Domestic Battery is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant is eligible for and extended sentence of 3-14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Aggravated Battery is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Puentes is scheduled to be sentenced at 10:30am on December 14th, 2018, by the Honorable Judge Wilt in Courtroom 467.
