Take Root Veteran Program | Apply by 12/1, program launches December 2017!

Are you a military veteran interested in learning the trade of farming? Look no further! Take Root is a program that connects veterans to paid employment and training on established farms in southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and the Chicagoland area.

Through the Take Root program, veterans interested in farming will gain:

  • Hands-on production skills, learned on an established farm
  • Guidance from an experienced local farmer
  • A customized education plan developed by farming professionals
  • A widened farmer network and access to interactive field days through Upper Midwest CRAFT
  • Accommodations and admission to TWO acclaimed farming conferences: MOSES Organic Farming Conference and the Wisconsin New Farmer U (includes Fearless Farm Finances and Food Safety workshops)
  • Hourly salary (at least minimum wage) PLUS a $30 stipend toward additional educational resources

Angelic Organics Learning Center is currently seeking a Farmer​ ​Training​ ​Program​ ​Assistant​ 20-40 hours a week to cover the following roles within our Farmer Training Initiative

  • Providing office and in-person support for programs, including preparing supplies, communicating with participants, and coordinating record keeping 
  • Producing and distributing the weekly Upper Midwest CRAFT eNewsletter, Farmer Training eBlasts and other design projects as needed
  • Fielding inquiries on behalf of our Farmer Training programs and services (phone, email, in person)
  • Preparing and coordinating logistics for Farmer Training programs and events
  • Coordinating enrollment of Upper Midwest CRAFT membership, data entry and tracking for the department
  • Additional roles may include coordinating aspects of emerging and existing projects 

Compensation will range between $9.50 and $13.50 per hour, and will be commensurate with experience. Employees working at least 30 hours a week qualify for health insurance, ample paid time off, and other benefits as per our Employee Handbook.
